Expanding ecological assessment by integrating microorganisms into routine freshwater biomonitoring

چکیده
Bioindication has become an indispensable part of water quality monitoring in most countries the world, with presence and abundance bioindicator taxa, mostly multicellular eukaryotes, used for biotic indices. In contrast, microbes (bacteria, archaea protists) are seldom as bioindicators routine assessments, although they have been recognized their importance environmental processes. Recently, use molecular methods revealed unexpected diversity within known functional groups novel metabolic pathways that particularly important energy nutrient cycling. various habitats, microbial communities respond to eutrophication, metals, natural or anthropogenic organic pollutants through changes function. this review, we evaluated common trends these changes, documenting value can be not only but also improving our understanding major processes lotic lentic environments. Current knowledge provides a solid foundation exploiting community structures diversity, well genes, programs. These measures combined into indices, resolution individual bioindicators. Here, assess particular approaches complemented by advanced bioinformatic analysis, promising respect detailed bioindication value. We conclude dynamics missing link rapid structure function aquatic ecosystems, should addressed future freshwater ecosystems.

Integrating Psychosocial Care Into Routine Cancer Care.
BACKGROUND Despite growing recognition that psychosocial care is an essential component of comprehensive cancer care, evidence suggests many patients with cancer do not receive needed psychosocial care. METHODS Four areas were identified as potentially increasing the number of patients with cancer who receive needed psychosocial care: (1) formulating care standards, (2) issuing clinical pract...
متن کاملIntegrating Soil Ecological Knowledge into Restoration Management
The variability in the type of ecosystem degradation and the specificity of restoration goals can challenge restorationists’ ability to generalize about approaches that lead to restoration success. The discipline of soil ecology, which emphasizes both soil organisms and ecosystem processes, has generated a body of knowledge that can be generally useful in improving the outcomes of restoration d...
متن کاملFreshwater Zoobenthic Species: Role in Biomonitoring and Ecological Processes- A Review
Water resources especially lotic ecosystems drain diverse landscapes with their peculiar climatic regime, making them extremely diverse in terms of establishment of complex network of biotic communities, one such component are benthic macroinvertebrates or zoobenthos which are integral components of freshwater systems. They are represented by insects, molluscans, crustaceans, annelids and nemat...
متن کاملChanges through time: integrating microorganisms into the study of succession.
Ecologists have documented the process of plant succession for centuries, yet the successional patterns exhibited by microbial communities have received relatively little attention. We examine recent work on microbial succession and show how, despite some key differences, studies of plant succession can serve as a template for understanding microbial succession. We divide the broad range of pat...
